Dakota Potts
Hi there, I’m Dakota Potts. As a seasoned gunsmith, armorer, and devoted competitive shooter, I’ve got a real soft spot for the intricate design, artistry, and mechanics of firearms. I’ve put in the hard yards, receiving an education in classical engineering at Piedmont Technical College and earning a Degree in General Machine Tool Technology.
With almost a decade of experience behind me, I’ve honed my skills by building high-end custom rifles, including ones matching the exact specifications of current military sniper rifles. I’ve also had the privilege of working for a leading firearms manufacturer, Kalashnikov USA, as their in-house gunsmith. Working for such respectable companies, I sharpened my expertise and applied it to the crafting of my own firearms, from competition rifles to my concealed carry.
Outside of gunsmithing, I have a great devotion to learning about firearm history and technology, and I am always fascinated to learn more about the most recent breakthroughs or goings-on in the community. Besides that, I’m also an experienced competitive shooter and spend my spare time developing my skills on the field. If you have an interest in competitive shooting and precision shooting, you can follow my work, as I regularly provide tips and strategies to help fellow enthusiasts sharpen their skills and shine in the sport.
With years of expertise under my belt, I love delving into various projects, experiments, and gunsmithing techniques, then sharing my findings with other firearm enthusiasts and gunsmithing aficionados. I’m a proud gun rights advocate, and I’ve been an active member of several state-level gun rights groups. I’m passionate about developing this community through my work, whether that be through my writing, my involvement in the gunsmithing and competitive shooting community, or my advocacy for gun rights.
Besides writing for Rifle Gear Lab, I also own my own website at pottsprecision.com. Along with my work on important gun-related topics, I aim to provide honest, in-depth product reviews and advice on gunsmithing and firearm use from a pragmatic and realistic standpoint, ensuring you make well-informed decisions when you make investments in this field.
